ART EXHIBITION

As a follow up to their successful private exhibition in December, Marion Chicken, Fran Sexton and Helen Blackbeard are excited to be taking their ‘Kaleidoscope of Colour’  to the Masque Theatre where it will run for a month from 1 February from 10:00 until 13:00 and during the run of the February shows.

Helen has been creating from a young age, working in different mediums over the years but now works exclusively in oil paint. She is inspired by the beauty of nature, by beautiful colours and patterns – whether they are natural or man made. Her love of animals, especially cats, is clearly evident as they are often the subject of her paintings.

Marion  has always loved art - finding  it a compatible frequency to which she is well in tune. She has been fortunate to have been taught by Barrie Howard, Annette Keiser &  Marlise Keith all of whom have all contributed to her progress. She recently attended the inspirational Dale Elliott holiday course in Villiersdorp and is a member of SASA & the Constantiaberg Art Society. She believes art flows from the soul & most of her works are wrapped in good feelings. She loves watercolours & oils & also enjoys working in acrylics, pen & pencil.

Fran was already a grandmother, when she ‘discovered’ art by  attending  a  workshop  given  by an art teacher friend, who opened her eyes to various mediums and inspired her to use her right  brain  which  had  been sadly neglected! More recently she has focused on oil painting, and enjoys depicting scenes from her travels, local and international.

'MARVIN'S ROOM'

An unusual play opens at the Masque Theatre, Muizenberg, on Friday 9 March 2012.

In 'Marvin's Room' by Scott McPherson, two estranged sisters and their dependants find themselves together under one roof due to the diagnosis of a terminal illness; the themes of love and duty are explored with humour and candour. Playwright McPherson chooses not to focus on illness and death, but rather on the relationships within the family.

The New York Times described this play as "...one of the funniest plays of the year as well as one of the wisest and most moving". It has won numerous awards overseas and the film version starred Diane Keaton and Meryl Streep.

Brenda Gray directs this extraordinary play for the Claremont Dramatic Society. Her cast includes award-winners Julie Summers and Trish Sutton as the sisters. The set has been designed by David Davidson.

'Marvin's Room' opens at the Masque Theatre, Muizenberg, on Friday 9 March
and runs until Saturday 17 March, excluding Sunday to Wednesday. Weeknights are at 20h00 and Saturdays at 14h30 and 18h30.  Tickets are R55 for Thursday evening and Saturday matinees and R65 for remaining shows. (Masque Theatre Club Members enjoy a R10 discount).  To book phone Masque Theatre Bookings on 021 788 1898 (o/h)
